Skins AU: Picks up after series 4. Cook avenges Freddie and kills Foster, which results in Cook and Effy going on the run together once again. They spend their nights partying hard and their days as professional scam artists, cheating rich folk out of their money.
So I could talk about what a brilliantly structured character James Cook is and why I will stan him to death, but I’m gonna talk about Ceffy instead cause I’m in that kind of mood.
This, right here, for me, is why it will always be Cook and Effy. The minute Effy crashed into Cook and Freddie’s life she turned everything upside down. She ran them around in circles, almost ruined their friendship, broke their hearts, and successfully derailed them both at different points. Effy Stonem is damaged. Effy Stonem “destroys everything she touches.“
Enter Dr. Foster, who is basically the physical manifestation of Effy’s love. Dr. Foster feeds off her feelings for these two boys, and her love literally creates a monster.
Sweet, harmless, predictable, safe Freddie never had a prayer. He was always in over his head during his relationship with Effy. He briefly tries to stand up to Dr. Foster, but it is not enough. When the moment of flight or fight arrives he chooses flight, because Freddie always chooses flight when Effy becomes too much for him (3x8, 4x5, and again earlier in 4x7). The boy Effy trusted to take care of her couldn’t do it.
It’s reckless, equally damaged, volatile, “brave” Cook who stands his ground. Who launches himself at Dr. Foster and is willing to fight to the bitter end. (And lbr Cook crushed that physco.) Cook is the only one who can face Effy’s monsters. The boy Effy didn’t trust to take care of her did it anyway.
…and I think that might just be the longest post I’ve ever written. Apparently I can’t contain my super embarrassing Ceffy interpretations and feels today. Blaming Monika for putting me in a CE mood tbh.

This might seem like me going off on a tangent but I mention her—Effy’s— shirt because Sid and Nancy are on it. Now, this may have just been any other shirt from the wardrobe department or maybe it was more significant than that. For those who don’t know who Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen were, a brief history: Nancy was a teen groupie who had a relationship with punk rocker, Sid. They were addicted to drugs and each other, and no matter how tumultuous their relationship, they always came back together. Some say they were totally wrong for each other, some say that’s what made them so right together. Dunno about you but I see the Cook/Effy similarities.
